The article that links to the comment is very interesting about the threats they received. If you click on the hyperlink it leads you to the full story. There was additional information about how the threats came after "authorities clamped down on suspected Islamic militants in the region surrounding Sochi."

The e-mails were sent to the Olympic Officials. So those in charge of preparing for the Olympics. A number of countries were sent those e-mails. I don't think it went to the individual competitors.

Thanks for getting specific about which July they decided on who will host the next Winter Olympics. That's a big difference knowing now that is was July 2007. Time was needed for Sochi to build and prepare for this years Olympics!

That is the amount of people that are there for the Winter Olympics. The normal population is only about 345,000.

Well i read that just putting the Olympics in to the wilderness that it will help the environment. But also they have you make new roads and new hotels so on there idea of being green hasn't gone so well.

Very interesting. Another fact I didn't know. Makes sense for them to host another big event since they spent all that money to set up for the Olympics. They should be set for the World Cup in 4 years.

Sochi was chose by the IOC to host the 2014 Olympics during the 119th Session in Guatemala City, Guatemala on July 4th, 2007. Sochi was up against several other places to host this major event, but in the end... They Got It!!!

Actually they do mean something, each ring stands for a country that is competing in the Olympics.North and South America are considered one ring, along with Africa, Australia, Asia and Europe each have there own ring.
